Change Your State of Mind with These Five Tips

This entry was posted in Life Coaching and tagged , , on by .

Human emotions are powerful forces that determine our outlook on life. They also allow us to empathize with others, such as by feeling pain or sharing in joy. Knowing how influential emotions are, it’s important to be in touch with them. And what you’ll learn through your life coaching sessions in Los Angeles is that you have more control than you think!

One of the best ways to change your mentality is by taking control of your state of mind. Let’s learn more about what this means and how you can influence your mood – and life – to be more optimistic, productive and beneficial. It all lies within you!

What Does ‘State of Mind’ Refer To?

‘State of mind’ refers to your emotional state at a particular point in time. It includes both your mood and your mental state, and there are differences between the two. Your mood is short-lived. If you have a presentation to give, you’re likely to feel anxious. But when the event is over, you’ll feel relieved.

Even if you are stuck in the same mood all day, it’s still just a bad mood. Your state of mind, on the other hand, is on a higher level of consciousness. It involves your mental and emotional states, which can be positive, negative or neutral. You have control over both your mood and your state of mind, and you can change how you feel in an instant.

5 Ways to Change Your State of Mind

No matter how tough life gets, no one enjoys being in a bad mood. We all want to be happy and content with our lives. Unfortunately for some of us, we walk around with negative moods and negative states of mind. But we can change this, leading to longer, healthier and better lives! After all, your state of mind has a direct effect on your mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual life.

Here are five ways that you can change your state of mind in an instant!

1. Identify limiting beliefs.

Limiting beliefs are beliefs that restrict you in some way, stopping you from pursuing your goals and desires. For example, you might believe that you can’t be loved or are not talented enough to do something. Examine these beliefs and how they are holding you back, then replace them with empowering ones.

2. Change how you talk to yourself.

Do you have a negative inner critic? Would you talk to others the way you let your inner critic talk to you? Probably not. The next time you catch yourself in negative self-talk, imagine that you are talking to your best friend instead. Think of something positive to say.

3. Practice good self-care.

Taking care of your physical needs is an important part of caring for your mental health. When you feel good and your needs are met, it’s easier to maintain a positive attitude. Make sure that you are eating a healthy, balanced diet, getting a full 7 to 9 hours of sleep at night and making time for exercise.

4. Build an empowering routine.

Having an empowering routine is an excellent way to maintain a positive state. Even if you experience something negative, you’ll have tools to elevate your mood. For instance, you might start your day off with meditation and gratitude, and end your day with writing in a journal.

5. Let go of expectations.

You can achieve the ultimate freedom when you let things go and allow them to happen naturally. Having expectations can be dangerous because you’ll end up feeling disappointed much of the time. Take responsibility for your decisions, expect respect from yourself and live in the moment – but let expectations for others go.
